Frank Horvat – Crossing Paris

|||||||||||

The exhibition Frank Horvat: Crossing Paris presents a selection of the artist’s photographs taken in Paris between 1950 and 1980. It evokes the streets of the city, its inhabitants, its nightlife, its celebrities and its fashion activity.

Born in 1928 in Italy, Frank Horvat became a photojournalist just after the war. He later specialized in fashion photography, which made him famous. As a pioneer, he brought “fashion to the street” by applying his photojournalistic techniques. His photographs are today present in the collections of some of the greatest museums such as the Centre Pompidou, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, the Musée Galliera, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Getty Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. In this exhibition, in which the title is borrowed from Claude Autant-Lara’s famous film with Jean Gabin and Bourvil, some of the multiple facets of Frank Horvat’s work are represented in this portrait of Paris.
